Trekkies can now command ‘Computer’ to wake up Amazon Echo

The smart speakers from Amazon - Echo has added a new feature in the recent time, and it’s a dream come true moment for the Trekkies.

Amazon has added a wake word to access the Echo through its voice-assistant Alexa. If you have a device at home, you’ll probably see three wake words in your app: Alexa, Amazon, and Echo. But, now adds the fourth and the best wake word - Computer.

The command ‘computer’ might not surprise you, but for Trekkies, it’s a treat from Amazon depicting the voice control of the star trek’s Starship Enterprise and is indeed a sign of gratitude from Bezos for his favorite fiction series.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos made his announcement “Our vision was that, in the long term, it would become like the Star Trek computer,” in the Transformers conference conducted last year.

Believe it or not - with this move he’s already half way through in achieving it.

If you want to switch your wake word to ‘computer’, open the Alexa app and select ‘settings’ from the menu. After selecting your device, scroll down to tap ‘Wake Word’ option from the menu and choose your wake word and save. Once your wake word has changed the device light ring will turn to orange.
