Facebook is Developing a Video App for your T.V

At the Code Conference in Dana Point, Facebook has announced that it is developing a video app to view the shared videos on connected Televisions.

The social network giant on Tuesday has announced new updates for watching video on its app. The new update allows the user to view the vertical videos in a larger format on both iOS and Android. You can minimize the video screen to picture-to-picture view while browsing the newsfeed. In addition, the update brings in sound fade in and out for videos as the user scrolls down the newsfeed.

“People are watching and sharing more video on Facebook than ever, and we’re focused on continuously improving the video experience.” said Facebook Product Manager Dana Sittler on her blogspot.

With the increasing focus on video experience, Facebook has made a big announcement that it will launch a standalone video app for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Samsung Smart TV. The app will roll out “soon” to the app stores, according to the company.

“Last year we rolled out the ability for you to stream videos from Facebook to your TV, and today’s announcement expands this capability.” said Dana Stiller and Alex Li in the post. With the video app, you can watch videos shared by your friends or videos posted on the page you follow, recommended videos and top live videos from different part of the world. You can also watch the saved the video on the connected television.

This move by Facebook can eventually compete with the likes of ‘YouTube’ and video streaming apps like ‘Netflix’ or ‘Hulu’. Especially, the video app can contend with the traditional television channels for advertising revenue.
