Whatsapp New Status Update ropes in Snapchat-like Photo and Video Stories

Marching towards its eighth birthday later this week, Whatsapp has announced a major revamp on one of its core features - Whatsapp Status. Last Monday, the facebook-owned messaging app had made an announcement that it will roll out snapchat-like features which enable the user to update images, videos and Gifs as status.

“Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way. Yes, even your status updates are end-to-end encrypted” said Whatsapp CEO and C0-founder Jan Koum in a blogspot published on the company’s official website.

Apart from sharing images and videos, the new update allows the user to change the status several times a day. Just like Instagram Stories and Snapchat Stories, your status will be visible to all your contacts by default and disappears after 24 hours. You can also change the visibility mode to ‘My contacts except’  or ‘Only share with’ option from the menu.

As you would think, the status gets a separate tab in between ‘call’ and ‘Chat’ tabs. Under the tab, you can notice three different groups:

My Status - To view your most recent Whatsapp status.
Recent Updates - To view the status posted by your friends in last 24 hours.
Viewed Updates - To view the status muted by you.

The new update has currently rolled out in the European nations and will soon be available to all Whatsapp users on iOS, Android and Windows.

With this latest update, it is time to say goodbye to the boring “ Hey, there, I'm using WhatsApp” status and whoop it up for the all-new status with a creative twist.
