Karnataka Launches ‘Suraksha’ - A Security App for Women in Bangalore

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday launched a security app named ‘Suraksha’ for the safety of women in the state capital.

Introduced by the Bangalore City Police, the app is integrated with the police control room and aimed to provide safety and security for women in emergencies.

“I am very happy this app has been launched finally. I have been telling the police to give importance to women safety,’’ said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to the reporters.

The app is available for both Android and Apple platforms for free of cost and designed to rescue women in distress with least possible time as it is integrated with all pink hoysala (patrol vehicle) and the control room.

The user needs to register the name and can provide two more numbers of persons whom they wish to contact and inform during the emergency.  In a panic situation, the user should hold the phone in front of the attacker and the app will automatically record a 10-second video and send it to the police control room.

In addition, the user can press the power button for five minutes to seek help. This will direct the nearby patrol vehicle to reach the people in distress. The location of the person will be tracked using the GPS and live tracking system.

To support the app, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara flagged off 21 pink patrols to ensure the safety of women and children in the city. The vehicles will be manned by three policewomen and will be stationed at schools, women’s colleges, shopping malls, temples, offices, and other sensitive places in the city. It is well-equipped with GPS and camera to locate victims and monitor the video received.

With the launch of new 21 Pink hoysalas, the number of patrol vehicles in Bangalore has moved up to 272.
