Snapchat ratings drop to 1 star after Evan Spiegel’s alleged statement

A day after the alleged statement came into limelight, Snapchat’s app rating dropped down to ‘single star’ from a distinct ‘five star’ rating on the App Store.

The bashing started when variety reported the disparaging comment of Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel about his disinterest in expanding overseas when Anthony Pompliano expressed his concern on expanding the user growth in 2015. Evan allegedly said “This app is only for rich people,” and added that he don’t want to expand the user base into poor countries like India and Spain.

Indians did not take the comment lightly and made their opposition on social networks against the CEO and the app. As a result, the customer rating for the app faced a dramatic downturn and dropped down to 1 star on the Apple App Store for the current version.

The rating is based on 6,099 ratings, and the rating for all versions of the app on the App Store is 1.5 stars, based on 9,527 ratings. On the other hand, the customer rating for Snapchat on Android Play Store is 4 star, based on 11,932,996 ratings. While the ratings went down, the criticism for CEO and the app is rapidly increasing.

Some users wrote, "Poor Evan Spiegel", “Mr.CEO, you don't know completely about Indians and you made a wrong statement”, and “Poor India & Spain need better than Snapchat”. Many deleted their accounts and uninstalled the ephemeral messaging app.
The app was trolled on Twitter as well and #boycottsnapchat has become the most trending hashtag overnight.

“Dear "Rich" Snapchat, Good Bye from my "Poor" mobile. I love my country more than this app” a user tweeted.

It is noted that Snapchat has more than 4 million users in India.
