Amazon Prime Video signs exclusive deal with Lionsgate

The two e-commerce biggies-Amazon and Lionsgate on Friday announced an exclusive long-term deal which will make the Amazon Prime Video the subscription streaming home for all the projects undertaken by the hollywood studio.


The list encompasses Lionsgate’s top acclaimed films, television series, and upcoming new releases. And the deal encloses blockbuster like ‘La La Land’ which has won six Academy Awards and grossed $370 million at the international box office, along with the other event films including ‘The Divergent Series: Allegiant’ and ‘Deepwater Horizon’.


In addition to that, upcoming new releases like ‘Power Rangers’ and ‘The Shack’ will also be released only to the prime members, and will not be available on satellite or pay televisions. The deal was negotiated and closed by Rohit Tiwari from Morris Street Advisors, representing Lionsgate in India.

“We know our Prime members are going to absolutely love the selection of award-winning films, indelible characters and unforgettable stories from edge-of-the-seat thrillers to spectacular action to heartfelt drama — in true Lionsgate style,” said Nitesh Kripalani, Director and Country Head, Amazon Prime Video India.

The Lionsgate President of Worldwide Television & Digital Distribution, Jim Packed replied: We’re very pleased to partner with Amazon as they continue to transform the face of entertainment in India and bring our premium film and television content to their viewers.”

All-time top film franchise like ‘Twilight Saga’, ‘Saw’, ‘Red’ and ‘Step Up’ will also be available to the prime members. Apart from that, the worldwide hit series such as ‘Nashville’, ‘The Royals’ and ‘Graves’ will have their subscription streaming home in the Prime video app. Additionally, some of the greatest series like ‘Anger Management’ and ‘Mad Men’ were also added in the deal.
